Melvin Jones was born on January 13, 1879 in Fort Thomas, Arizona. Jones was a prominent business leader in Chicago and member of a businessman’s luncheon club. He soon realized that like minded individuals who possess the drive and ambition to run a successful business, could come together and apply their skills to do a lot of good in the community. Inspired by this idea, Jones founded Lions Club International on June 7, 1917. Melvin Jones was Initiated in 1906 at Garden City Lodge No. 141 in Chicago Illinois. Brother Jones died on June 1, 1961.
