Masonic installations in America are typically OPEN, meaning families and friends and any one else who is interested can witness the officers assuming their places and responsibilities for the coming year. Installations usually take place in the lodge and the ceremony is performed by an installing officer with the assistance of a master of ceremonies. The ceremony lasts about an hour and is conducted with great dignity and sincerity. Followed by refreshments. People who do not know much about freemasonry can observe and learn much of what its all about. If you as a mason have not been to one, it might benefit you to try to attend and see how it goes. Installations are typically held at the beginning or end of the calendar year. In many areas, particularly outside the united states, installations remain closed, only allowing members to attend.
