Freemasonry in general has the reputation of being called a secret society. There is so much information out there and has been, let me emphasize, for hundreds of years. The modes of recognition are not shared with everyone and properly called secret. Freemasonry is not accepted in all countries, in my lifetime hitler, mussolini, franco and salazar made that abundantly clear. So in many societies it has been obliged to be low key. The universal obligation of all freemasons to keep some details private forges and maintains integrity.
