Summary

The Friend to Friend Masonic Memorial is a Gettysburg Battlefield monument located at the north-west end of the Gettysburg National Cemetery. The monument consists of a remarkably detailed bronze sculpture sculpted by Ron Tunison, depicting the Armistead-Bingham incident which took place on July 3, 1863. During Pickett's Charge, Confederate Brigadier General Lewis Arimstead was mortally-wounded by gunfire. As the scene depicts, Union Army Captain Henry Bingham came to Armistead's assistance as a fellow Freemason, when Armistead entrusted his personal effects to Bingham. The Sculpture was presented by the Right Worshipful Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania, and dedicated on August 21st, 1993 as a memorial to the Freemasons of the Union and the Confederacy.
