First opened in 1929, this massive structure is among the largest Masonic buildings in the world. On September 18, 1922 the cornerstone was laid using the same trowel used by George Washington in the construction of the U.S. Capitol. Designed to accommodate all of Detroit's Masonic Lodges and concordant bodies, The Masonic Temple features 1,037 rooms which total a staggering 12 million cubic feet of space. Among the facilities many features are 3 large theaters, a chapel, Shrine Temple, 2 grand ballrooms, a barber shop, space for professional movie production, and even a 16 lane bowling alley. The Masonic Temple, is currently the premier theatrical venue in Detroit, and is sure to leave a lasting impression on anyone who visits. Daily guided tours are available for individuals, and group tours are available in 6 languages by appointment.
