Great Smokey Mountains Masonic Monument
In the Great Smokey Mountains National Park at Black Camp Gap on Blue Ridge Parkway, stands a hidden treasure of the Fraternity of Freemasonry. There you will find the Great Smokey Mountains Masonic Monument. It's construction began in 1938 by the Grand Council of Royal and Select Masters of North Carolina. One of the unique features of this monument is that stones were requested from Brethren of Masonic Lodges and concordant bodies all over the world, which would be incorporated into it's construction. In the true spirit of the boundless reach of brotherly love, a vast variety of stones from historic places came from 41 countries and nearly every US State, totaling 687 in all. A truly astonishing effort and an equal response from the Brothers around the world. This is the perfect place for which to make a pilgrimage, and ponder the far reaches of the world that our craft enfolds and enriches.
