Benjamin Franklin

Born January 17, 1706 Initiated February 1730 Raised Died April 17, 1790 Benjamin Franklin was born on January 17, 1706 in Boston Massachusetts. Franklin began work in a printing press as a typesetter and author, but is best known as one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. He is credited for founding the first public library, for his invention of the Glass Armonica, the lightning rod, bifocal glasses, the Franklin Stove, the flexible urinary catheter and the odometer. Franklin is also credited for his work and studies in the fields of electricity, light wave theory, oceanography, meteorology, geo-engineering, demography, and physics. In 1731 Franklin became a Freemason, and that year edited and published James Anderson's Constitutions of the Free-Masons, which was then the first Masonic publication in the Americas. Brother Franklin was called from labor on April 17, 1790 at the age of 84 and was laid to rest at Christ Church Burial Ground in Philadelphia.
