Died December 14, 1799
George Washington was born February 22, 1732. Washington is commonly known for being the first President of the United States (1789–1797), the commander-in-chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, and one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. He was elected President as the unanimous choice of the electors in 1788, and he served two terms in office. On November 4, 1752, Washington was Initiated as Entered Apprentice at Fredericksburg Lodge No. 4, Fredericksburg, Virginia. As Acting Grand Master, it is well known that he laid the cornerstone for the United States Capitol, Washington, D.C. on September 18, 1794. What many people don't know about Bro. Washington is that he was widely acknowledged as the best horseman in the 13 Colonies, and that he refused payment for the 8 1/2 years as Commander in Chief asking only to be reimbursed for his expenses, which were never fully reimbursed. On December 14, 1799 at the age of 67, Bro. Washington was called from labor and was buried 4 days later at Mount Vernon with Masonic rites as well as those of the church, conducted by Alexandria Lodge.
