John Wayne

Born May 26, 1907 Initiated Raised Died June 11, 1979 Marion Robert Morrison was born on May 26, 1907 in Winterset Iowa. Shortly after birth, his parents decided to name their next child Robert, and changed his middle name to Mitchell. Early in his film career, he was given on-screen credit as "Duke Morrison". Later Director Raoul Walsh suggested the name of "John Wayne" and the stage moniker stuck. Wayne's first big break was the leading role of "The Big Trail" filmed by the Fox Film Company in 1930. This lead to leading roles in many more films, typically in the western genre. Among his best known films are "Stagecoatch" (1939), "The Quiet Man" (1952), "The Searchers" (1956), "Rio Bravo" (1959), "True Grit" (1969), and "The Shootist" (1976). John Wayne was made a Master Mason in McDaniel Lodge #56, later he became a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, and joined the Al Malaikah Shrine Temple in Los Angeles. Brother John Wayne was called from labor on June 11, 1979, at the UCLA Medical Center, is laid to rest at the Pacific View Memorial Park cemetery in Corona del Mar.
