Albert Pike

 Born December 29, 1809 Initiated 1840 Raised Died April 2, 1891 Albert Pike was born on December 29, 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1833, Pike settled in Arkansas where he worked as a school teacher and author. Four years later he began to study law, passed his bar exam, and began working for the Arkansas Supreme Court as a reporter. In 1840, Pike became a member of Western Star Lodge #2 in Little Rock, Arkansas. He later became the Sovereign Grand Commander of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Southern Jurisdiction. He retained this position for the remainder of his life. During his 32 year reign, he spent much of his time focusing on the development of the order's ritual. Pike is best known for publishing Morals and Dogma Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry in 1871, which remains an eminent and influential work among Freemasons today. Pike died on April 2, 1891 at the age of 81 in Washington D.C.. His remains now reside at the House of the Temple, the Scottish Rite Southern Jurisdiction headquarters.
