Henry Bromwell

Henry Bromwell was born on August 26, 1823 in Baltimore Maryland, and later settled in Cumberland County, Illinois in 1836. Bromwell and family relocated in 1848 to Vandalia, Illinois. There he began working for his father who owned the newspaper "The Age of Steam" Five years later, Bromwell was admitted to the bar, and was soon elected in Fayette County, Illinois as their County Judge. Bromwell was made a Mason in 1854 in Temperance Lodge No. 16. He served as Worshipful Master in that lodge in 1856, and later at Charleston Lodge No. 35 from 1858-1863. He later served as Grand Orator and Grand Worshipful Master of the Grand Lodge of Illinois. Bromwell is best known as the author of "Restorations of Masonic Geometry and Symbolry" His extensive work and research in the field of Masonic Geometry was described by the Illinois Grand Lodge as "The most remarkable contribution, along the lines of which it treats, yet made to Masonic Literature." Bromwell was called from labor on January 11th, 1903. Later that year, the Henry P. H. Bromwell Masonic Publication Company was formed to honor his work, which was finally published in 1905.
