James Anderson was born around 1680, in Aberdeen, Scotland. In 1720, he became a Presbyterian Minister and was assigned to a church in London and was well known and regarded for his poignant sermons, although Anderson is best known for his contributions to Freemasonry. Anderson served his Masonic lodge as Worshipful Master , and the Grand Lodge of London and Westminster and as a Grand Warden. In September of 1721, Anderson was commissioned by the Grand Lodge to publish a history of the Freemasons. In 1721, that work was published under the title of "The Constitutions of the Free-Masons", which we now know as the Anderson Constitutions. This body of work is on of the most influential among Freemasons and is still being studied and analyzed by modern scholars.
