Robert Gould

Robert Gould was born in 1836. Gould joined the English Army at the age of 18 and served in North China with distinction. When he returned to England in 1868, he began to study law and worked as a barrister. Gould was a member of the Royal Navy Lodge No. 429, Meridian Lodge No. 743, served as Worshipful Master for Inhabitants Lodge at Gibraltar, and in 1880 served as Senior Grand Deacon for the Grand Lodge of England. Gould is best known for his literary contributions to Freemasonry. Among his most influential works are "The Four Old Lodges" (1879), "The Atholl Lodges" (1879), and his greatest work, "The History of Freemasonry" (1882-1887). Brother Gould was called from labor on March 26, 1915.
