William Penn Adair Rogers was born November 4, 1897 on the Dog Iron Ranch near Oologah, Oklahoma. Rogers was a celebrated American cowboy, performer, movie star and newspaper columnist. Rogers began his show business career in South Africa in 1902 as "The Cherokee Kid" trick roper in "Texas Jack's Wild West Circus". Rogers later became a Hollywood sensation, commanding top box office reviews for more than a decade. He starred in over 70 feature films, was a hit radio program host, authored six books and was a globally syndicated newspaper columnist for over 400 papers. Rogers was made a Freemason at Clairmont Lodge No. 53, in Oklahoma. Rogers was called from labor on August 15, 1935 is laid to rest at the Will Rogers Memorial in Claremore, Oklahoma.
