Harry S. Truman

Born May 8, 1884 Initiated December 5, 1972 Raised Died December 5, 1972 Harry S. Truman was born on May 8, 1884 in Lamar, Missouri. Truman became the 33rd President of the United States in 1945 when his running mate and then President Franklin D. Roosevelt fell ill and passed away. During Truman's two terms, he oversaw the founding of the United Nations, Issued the Truman Doctrine, passed the Marshall Plan, oversaw the Berlin Airlift, and in 1949 the creation of NATO. Truman was made a Freemason in Belton Lodge No. 450, helped charter Grandview Lodge No. 618 where he served as their first Worshipful Master, and was elected Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Missouri. Truman was also a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, and received the honorary degree of Sovereign Grand Inspector General 33rd Degree. Brother Truman was called from labor on December 5, 1972 and is laid to rest at the Harry S. Truman Library & Museum in Independence, Missouri.
