Palmer Cox was born on April 28, 1840 in South-Ridge District, Quebec. Cox is best known as the illustrator and creator of the Brownie series of cartoon, comics, and books. After moving from Quebec to San Francisco, CA, began contributing various poems, cartoons, and articles to the the San Francisco Examiner, Golden Era, and Alta California publications, and later to several publications circulating on Americas east coast. Cox served as Worshipful Master at Mission Lodge No. 169 in San Francisco, CA in 1874. Brother Cox was called from labor on July 24, 1924.
