William Schwenck Gilbert was born on November 18, 1836 in Strand, London. Gilbert was a famed dramatist, illustrator, and poet. Among is most popular musical theater works is The Mikado, which is noted as one of the most frequently performed works in history. Gilbert is also well known for co-producing the Savoy operas, a series of fourteen comic operas. In 1907 Gilbert was knighted by King Edward VII. William Gilbert was made a Master Mason on June 23, 1871 at Lodge St. Machar No. 54 in Aberdeen, Scotland. Brother Gilbert was called from labor on May 29, 1911.
