Alexander Fleming

Born August 6, 1881 Initiated 1909 Raised Died March 11, 1955 Sir Alexander Fleming was born on August 6, 1881 in Lochfield, Scotland. Fleming attended Loudoun Moor School, Darvel School, and Kilmarnock Academy before relocating to London, England. There he attended the Royal Polytechnic Institution, and began working at a shipping office. Several years later, at the age of 20, Fleming received an inheritance from his uncle, and soon began medical school. After graduating with honors, he pursued his academic interest in anti-bacterial agents. Upon his return from a vacation in 1928, he noticed that one of the disease culture samples in his laboratory was contaminated by a mould which destroyed the culture. The following year fleming published his discovery. Fleming was a made a Mason in Palestine Lodge No. 357, Detroit, MI. Brother Alexander Fleming was called from labor on March 11, 1955 and was laid to rest at St. Paul's Cathedral.
