Cross, Maltese

A cross of eight points, worn by the Knights of Malta. It is heraldically described as "a cross patte, but the extremity of each patte notched at a deep angle." The eight points are said to refer symbolically to the eight beatitudes (see Matthew v, 3 to II ).
