Diderot, Denis

French encyclopedist. Born October 5, 1713; died July 30, 1784. Credited with an address at Paris in 1778 before the famous Lodge of Nine Sisters, mentioned in the correspondence, published at Paris in 1812, between Grimm and Diderot. But the Histoire de la Franc- Masonnerie Franaise (Albert Lantoine, 1925, Paris, page 360) says Diderot was not a Freemason.
