Sir Ernest Shackleton was born on February 15, 1874 in County Kildare, Ireland. Shackleton was a famed explorer and Freemason. In 1901, Shackleton joined Captain Scott’s South Pole Discovery Expedition in Antarctica, but the team did not reach their goal. Inspired and determined, Shackleton lead his own expedition six years later, which reached a record breaking 97 miles from the South Pole. He was Knighted In 1909 for his historic achievement. Shackleton was Initiated on July 9, 1901 at Navy Lodge No. 2612. Brother Shackleton died on January 5, 1922.
