John Brown was born on May 9th 1800 in Torrington Connecticut. Brown is best known as an American abolitionist. In 1859, Brown lead a raid on the federal armory at Harpers Ferry. The raid was ended in his capture, trial, and hanging, but sparked a liberation movement among enslaved Americans.The popular Union marching song “John Brown’s Body” further cemented Brown’s legacy as an martyr and American hero. John Brown was made a Master Mason on May 11, 1824 at Hudson Lodge No. 68 in Hudson Ohio. Brother Brown died on December 2, 1859.
