Sir Alexander Fleming was born on August 6, 1881 in Lochfield, Scotland. At the age of 20, Fleming received an inheritance from his uncle. He soon began medical school and pursued an academic interest in anti-bacterial agents. Upon returning from vacation in 1928, he noticed that one of the disease culture samples in his laboratory was contaminated by a mold which destroyed the culture. The following year fleming published his discovery and made history. Fleming was a made a Mason in Palestine Lodge No. 357, Detroit, MI. Brother Alexander Fleming died on March 11, 1955.
