Robert Freke Gould was born in 1836. He was a barrister. He joined the Royal Navy Lodge number 429 and other lodges within the empire. He is highly regarded as a brother who really studied freemasonry. He served as the senior grand deacon in England in 1880. He began writing about the craft at the young age of about 32 and his history of freemasonry was published over a period of 5 years, 1882 to 1887. He was one of the founders of the renowned Ars Quatuor Coronati Lodge number 2076 and he became its master in 1887. He was on the important board of general purposes for many years. Revered, he left us in 1915 after 79 years of life and was a great loss.
