Balloting
Featuring Worshipful Brother Gerald
The form of balloting used in a masonic lodge is straight forward and has always been one of our ancient rules. Black and white balls are commonly used to vote yes or no on the application for admission of a proposed member. If a black ball appears, the application is turned down. The purpose is not to allow any person to become a member who may cause disharmony. That in itself could cause the ruin of a peaceful and productive lodge. The term Black Balled has come into modern use in a more general sense to mean rejected or banned.
