A cubit is an old unit of length. The word cubit comes from the latin meaning elbow. The length of a cubit is defined as the distance between the elbow and the tip of the middle finger. Anywhere between say 18 to 21 inches. Because this length varies from person to person a cubit could have different meanings in difference places. Cubits were further divided into palms and fingers. Each cubit consisted of 7 Palms and each palm consisted of 4 fingers. The cubit is thought have been in use 5000 years ago.
