Sir Ernest Shackleton

Born February 15, 1874 Initiated July 9, 1901 Raised Died January 5, 1922 Sir Ernest Shackleton was born on February 15, 1874 in County Kildare, Ireland. Shackleton was a famed explorer and Freemason, and was Knighted in 1909 for his heroic expeditionary efforts. In 1901, Shackleton joined Captain Scott's South Pole Expedition in Antarctica, but team did not reach their goal. Inspired and determined, Shackleton lead his own expedition six years later, which was able to reach within 97 miles of the South Pole. Shackleton was Initiated on July 9, 1901 at Navy Lodge No. 2612, under the United Grand Lodge of England. Brother Shackleton was called from labor on January 5, 1922.
